Are Slimming Pills Dangerous for You?
July 10, 2010
It is a human tendency and need to fix a problem as fast as possible and the same is with over weight people, as they naturally want an instant remedy to lose weight. Many people, especially younger women believe that the easier way to lose weight is by using slimming pills.
People who take slimming pills feel that they have total control over their actions and they will stick to their recommended dosage. In reality, it is not true. People have started increasing the amounts prescribed, as they wish to speed up their weight loss expectations. Slimming pills are often the last resort to help people, who are grossly overweight and need to lose some weight, or struggling to lose some more.
Many health professionals agree that slimming pills do help many people. However, it is an emergent trend that the general public feel suspicious that these pills may have some side effects too. Certain slimming pills, if consumed without prescription can be dangerous. The most popular slimming pills are Reductil, Xenical.
These pills are available through proper prescription only. Xenical works as a fat buster and hence, less fat is absorbed in the body. Reductil is quite effective as a slimming pill, but is best for severely overweight or obese people.
The pills mentioned above are a good option for weight loss. However, you cannot assume that these pills are magical pills. These pills will not help you to reduce weight overnight. It may take months or may be years before you visualize a weight change in you. Slimming pills does not come with a tag of calorie-controlled diet. So, before you buy any slimming pills, remember to consult your physician.
Mild Disadvantages:
Xenical slimming pills come with some side effects, although these effects are gentle and avoidable. The common side effects include a sudden bowel movement, oily stools, and repeated bowel movements. There are also complaints of losing control over bowel movement by many people.
Another popular and preferred slimming pill is Alli, which is quite responsible of giving diarrhea, anal leakage and various other side effects to its several users. This slimming pill is proved to help reduce just 1 pound.
Actually, this pill unites with fats present in the body and takes them out of the digestive system, making it impossible to digest properly. On the other hand, it also obstructs all those necessary fats that are required by the body to remain healthy.
Hence, it becomes a necessity to consult your doctor before starting to intake such slimming pills.

More Shocking Myths About Fitness The Gym And Your Diet
July 4, 2010
There’s a very common myth in bodybuilding that, “Squats are bad for your knees.” Hello! Any lift is bad for you if you execute it wrong. This whole myth came about because one too many people ended up trashing their knees from doing too much weight with horrible form. The reason squats became the villain is because it is an exercise that involves the entire body, and therefore has more things that can go wrong if one uses incorrect form. When squatting it is critical to keep the head and eyes straight ahead, the back at no more than a 45-degree angle, with the feet at, or slightly past shoulder width apart. When lifting, the backs of your legs should come down until they are parallel with the floor. Many people only do partial reps, thinking it puts less stress on the knees. Fact is, if you only do 1/2 or 1/4 squats, the stress from stopping short puts a lot of negative stress on the knees. When performing a full parallel squat, it is the glutes and hamstrings, which absorb the stress.
Also, avoid “accessorizing” as much as possible. If you find that you can”t squat as much as you would like without wrapping your knees and compressing your body with a suit or belt, give your ego a rest and go down in weight! Belts and body suits can give a sense of false security. They also hinder the abdominals from fully developing as stabilizer muscles, so they should be used sparingly. Knee wraps are downright dangerous. Not only do they prevent the muscles around the knee from properly developing, they also compress the kneecap. Both of these can lead to serious injury. Bottom line, most of the people who claim that squats gave them bad knees probably used bad form, did partial reps with horrific amounts of weight, all the while wrapped up in a Catwoman bodysuit, with tourniquets around their knees!
Myth: “When doing cardio, train with low intensity “in the zone” to burn the most fat.”
Fact: This is more of a misunderstanding than an actual myth. What compounds the issue is the fact that the so-called “target heart-rate zones” are stamped right on the cardio equipment. Apparently lower intensity workouts are supposed to be in the “fat burning zone,” while higher intensity are in the “cardio training zone.” So does this mean that once you increase the level of intensity the body all of a sudden stops burning fat??
There is actually some truth to the theory about the body burning more bodyfat at a lower intensity level, however it is only part of the equation. A higher percentage of the calories burned during low-intensity cardio do come from the bodyfat stores. However, overall a much higher number of calories are burned during higher intensity cardio workouts, and therefore more actual fat is being burned. The third part of the equation comes after the workout is done. The body will continue to burn bodyfat after an intense cardio session for about 24 hours, whereas with a lower intensity workout the body will stop burning excess bodyfat shortly after completion.
Myth: “For best results use “the pros” workout plans.”
Fact: This myth is very prevalent, and also very dangerous. Some of these workouts look as if the writers have taken every possible lift in existence and put them all into one workout. Combine that with the ungodly number of sets and reps they say you are supposed to do and you”ve got an overtraining disaster waiting to happen! Another issue with a number of these workouts is that the athletes featured often have little to nothing to do with actually writing the workout. Sometimes it comes down to nothing more than a publisher approaching a pro bodybuilder and saying, “Here”s a check if you”ll let us use your name and pictures to endorse a workout program.” Bottom line is we really have no way of knowing who it was that actually wrote the program.
Make no mistake, workout programs with pictorials and exercise explanations are a great way to find new exercises and to learn what lifts work with each muscle group. Exercise extreme caution when reading about the number of sets to perform, though. A good rule of thumb to remember is that you should try and keep your workouts confined to no more than 12 total sets per muscle group. Any more than this and you risk overtraining.
MISCELLANEOUS MYTHS
Here are some myths that don”t necessarily focus specifically on nutrition or training, however they continue to plague us nonetheless.
Myth: “I want to lose 20 pounds.”
Fact: Using the scale is the most widely used, and also the absolute worst method for measuring progress. Scale weight tells you absolutely nothing about your body”s composition. What helps to perpetuate this myth are all the government endorsed “body mass index” charts so widely seen nowadays. Problem is, the only factors taken into consideration are height and weight. Nothing is said about bodyfat or lean muscle mass. According the BMI, both Brad Pitt and George Clooney are considered to be overweight, while Arnold Schwarzenegger is morbidly obese!
Using weight, as the sole means of measuring success or failure is very misleading, and can lead to frustration and ultimately to failure. One may think that they want to lose 20 pounds, but after weeks of intense training and sound eating, they”ve only lost 8 pounds, so they think they”ve failed. What they fail to realize is that while they”ve been losing bodyfat, they”ve been gaining muscle. In reality they may have lost a significant amount bodyfat, but they allow themselves to feel defeated because the scale still makes them feel fat. The best way to measure progress is to get out the old measuring tape and tape everything. If your waist, and also for women hips, are losing inches while everything else remains constant, then you are making progress. Taking monthly pictures will help as well. Since we see our own bodies every day, we often fail to notice the progress we”ve made, until we get a visual of what we looked like a month or two ago.
Myth: “This magic pill will make you lose weight without diet or exercise!”
Fact: Having heard these words, the scale on the old “BS” Alarm should be registering off the charts. With that being said, everyone needs to take a deep breath and repeat after me, “There is no magic pill that will make me thin. The only way to lose bodyfat and get healthy is through sound diet and exercise.” Feel better? Fact is, we as a society have gotten so lazy that we spend billions of dollars a year on crap that we know won”t work, but we drain our pocketbooks anyway “just in case it”s true.” Stop it already!
Reality check: Yes there are in fact supplements available that will assist you in the burning off of excess bodyfat. The key word here is assist. Of course the FDA keeps banning all the best ones like Fen-Phen and ephedra! But even those are not “magic pills” that alone will give you the body you desire. You will still have to eat right and exercise in order for them to be effective.
Summary: As you can see, myths and Urban Legends concerning bodybuilding and physical fitness continue to bombard us. Every day new myths are born, and old ones seem to somehow resurrect themselves. The best way to debunk a potential myth is to do some research for yourself. Expand your own knowledge, and do not rely simply on the word of others. The fact that someone works in a health food store, or is a “personal trainer” does not make them an expert, especially since it has become so easy to get “certified” anymore that a monkey can become a personal trainer!
Best Diet Pills on the Market
July 2, 2010
During one of their routine tests, scientists discovered that the plant has a molecule previously unknown. Since then, it was given the name P57. This began the amazing discovery of an ingredient in Hoodia Pills which makes it an effective weight loss product.
It slows down your desire to eat.
Restricts your caloric intake up to 50% a day
Increases the energy level in your body.
Natural and safe, with no side effects.
Before buying Hoodia pills, make sure that you are getting the authentic one. A lot of inferior products are available in the market and you might be disappointed in the results if you bought a fake product.Â
The following is a list of the best diet pills on the market today. These have been researched by the weight loss institute to deliver the best results without dire side-effects, so we have (in no particular order):
Hoodia:
This weight loss product is based on “Hoodia Gordonii”, the African plant extract that suppresses your appetite. Because of its great results this particular pill is flying off the shelves in drugstores and Internet web sites. Needless to say, it has been getting lots of attention lately.
Xerisan ASA:
After thorough research the Weight Loss Institute considers Xerisan to be one of the most promising new herbal diet pills introduced to the market in the last few years. Xerisan’s main ingredient, Phaseolus Vulgaris, has in recent studies been shown to act as a blocker of the alpha-amylase enzyme, this enzyme is required by our bodies in order to keep a healthy metabolism of carbohydrates. Although this product is fairly new, the effects of some of the ingredients have been published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and in the International Journal of Medical Sciences.
There are thousands of other diet supplements and weight loss products to be found all over the web and in the multi-billion dollar weight-loss industry. Regardless of how many times you are bombarded with flashy advertisements it is important to remember that there is no “miracle pill” that will effectively “evaporate” your excess fat, therefore it is always recommended to combine these supplements with a nutritious diet and a good fitness program. No “prescription drug” should be added to a diet without first consulting with your physician. The products mentioned above have been found to be “safe” because no serious side effect was reported by consumers.
Losing weight has been a constant battle for the 1.7 million obese Americans. Sometimes no matter how often you exercise and how you try to eat less, your weight just keeps on going up. There are people who have certain conditions that make the normal diet and regular exercises ineffective in losing weight.Â
These conditions may include muscle or bone weakness and hormonal problems. In these cases, diet pills may be the best bet to lose those unwanted body fats. Read on to find out some of the ways diet pills help you lose those extra pounds:
APPETITE SUPPRESSION. Diet pills â??trickâ? the body into thinking it is not hungry. There are two reasons your body sends out hunger signals (1) you are really hungry and (2) your body is accustomed to eating around that time. Obviously, you must only eat when youâ??re truly hungry. So, diet pills can tone down your bodyâ??s hunger signals promoting a practical amount of food consumption. The general idea is since you feel less hungry, youâ??ll surely eat less and when you eat less, you consume fewer calories and there youâ??ll lose weight.
INCREASE ENERGY LEVELS. Some diet pills boosts your bodyâ??s energy level making the most of it’s caloric intake. When youâ??re energized you burn more calories because you are more active. For instance, during your workouts youâ??ll be able to push more and have shorter recovery time.
Although it is possible for substandard diet pills to make it onto the shelves, there are still safe diet pills out there that can deliver real results fast! So to stay safe and confident about taking diet pills, ask your doctorâ??s advice. In the first place, your doctor knows your overall health condition so he/she will also definitely know which diet pill or regimen will work best for you.
Luckily, diet drugs have come a long way since the addictive “solutions” created and marketed during the 50s and 60s. It is important to remember that each generation of “prescription diet pills” which has been heavily marketed in the past has been recalled because they have proven more dangerous than effective. This was the case of the well remembered fen-phen and ephedra; experts continue their search for a safe diet pill that actually works.
According to the National Institute Of Health, more than 300,000 Americans die every year because of a diet rich in unhealthy oils (trans-fat, etc) and physical inactivity throughout their lives. As you can see this is certainly a highly alarming number! Itâ??s a proven fact that losing weight, even a small five to ten percent of body fat, will reduce your blood pressure and lower your overall cholesterol levels. So, why is this so difficult to do even with prescription drugs?. Simple people have forgotten 50% of the “weight loss equation”.
For one, many people think they can take a pill and lose the weight automatically. This is a common misconception which tends to frustrate people, so we need to realize that “fat and extra pounds DO NOT magically evaporate”, instead they are broken down by our body so that through physical exercise they can be eliminated from our system. A healthy diet consists of so much more than just taking a pill. We must combine the pills with a proper diet. In addition to the already discussed ways to avoid gaining weight, we can also remember to drink as much water as possible and exercise moderately in order to gain the maximum benefits offered by diet pills. Don’t forget to eat small portions of food several times a day (around 4 to 6 portions a day), never reduce your food consumption drastically from one day to the other because it could have dire effects. Counting calories helps you keep track of how many calories you are consuming every day.
Can Diet Pills Deliver the Weight Loss Result You Desire?
June 30, 2010
Who would ever need to engage in daily exercise and eat the right kind of diet when there are diet pills that you can simply pop and there, you get to lose your unwanted weight? The question is can diet pills really help you achieve weight loss in the same way that the combination of daily exercise and the right kind of diet does?
Let’s take a closer look at how this diet pills work and then you decide.
Over the years, there are diet pills that are known to have negative side effects. Some are even associated with serious health conditions such as heart problems. There are also known incidents where diet pills are linked to a person’s death.
Diet pills come in varieties. You have the prescription diet pills, the non-prescription or over-the-counter diet pills, and the herbal supplements.
Prescription diet pills as the name suggest are pills that require the prescription of the attending physician before it can be purchased. These pills are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and their use is strictly in compliance and monitored by the physician who prescribed the pills.
Over-the-counter diet pills, on the other hand, are readily available in drugstores or pharmacies and one does not need to carry a physician’s prescription in order to avail of these pills. There are over-the-counter diet pills that are known to have side effects due to certain ingredients. They are still regulated by the FDA, though.
Herbal Supplements are diet pills that are regulated differently by the FDA. They are not considered as drugs but as foods. Made of all natural ingredients, herbal supplements are also easily available at drugstores and pharmacies without physician’s prescription. They are considered to be generally safer than the first two varieties, with practically no side effects at all.
While diet pills may deliver weight loss results, it is important to note that most often, these results are only short-term. Further, once the body gets used to the pills, the less likely that it will deliver the same results and one may need to depend on the pills to achieve weight loss.
Diet pills should only be taken as a supplement and not a substitute for an effective weight loss program that is comprised of a combination of eating the right kind of diet and exercising regularly.
You also have to exercise some degree of caution in choosing the diet pills that you are going to take. Since herbal supplements are made of all natural ingredients, it is less risky and safer than prescription and over-the-counter pills.
Even when taking diet pills, one should continue to watch one’s diet and never refrain from exercising. Any amount of diet pills will be futile in the absence of the two crucial elements in weight loss.
Be a learned weight watcher. As much as possible always increase your level of awareness in weight loss programs including the intake of diet pills. Also, don’t be allured by the quick fix that any program offers. What is worth having is worth waiting for.
Fitness: Commonly Made Mistakes
June 28, 2010
Unless you are a personal trainer, starting a fitness routine can be rather difficult. The process of figuring out the right exercises and the proper dieting tips can be quite a struggle for the average person. That is why many people make numerous mistakes while working out. Whether you work out at home or at the gym, this article will provide you with a few commonly made fitness mistakes.
One major mistake that people make at the gym or at home is leaning on the equipment. Almost every time that I am at a gym I see people leaning on the handle bars of the treadmill or the stair-master. This is a big no-no. Posture is very important when any type of physical activity is concerned. Whenever you lean on fitness equipment, your back is rounded and your spine does not get enough support. Another commonly made mistake is holding on too tightly to the cardio machines. This in return creates tension in the arms and a higher tendency to lean on machinery. Furthermore, it is far more beneficial to move your arms during cardiovascular fitness in order to increase your heart rate and burn more calories.
The last fitness mistake made by a lot of beginners is the belief that cardiovascular fitness is enough. Although cardiovascular fitness is very beneficial to our health, strength training is also a wise addition. Given that we begin to lose muscle at the age of 30, strength training is a great way to maintain and improve our muscle structure. Furthermore, the more muscle you have the more calories you burn (even while at rest). So if you really want to lose weight, aside from a healthy diet and weight pills (all natural diet pill), a proper fitness regimen is a must.
How to Choose the Right Weight Loss Pills For You?
June 26, 2010
Losing weight is a long and uphill battle. We often give up before we even reach the end of the game. Some of us fall into a vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting. The good news is it does not always have to be this way. What you may need is the help of weight loss pills.
If you stumble start over
Falling off the wagon is normal. Having a cake or a slice of pizza will not bring the end of the world. If you give in to your cravings today, exercise it off tomorrow. The important thing is not to give up.
Get the right help
Sometimes going to the gym and eating right is not enough. When exercising and the right foods are not yielding results, you may want to consider using weight loss pills.
What are weight loss pills?
Weight loss pills are supplements that can do two things for you: help you loose weight and help you keep the weight off. The problem is, there are so many of these pills flooding the market that you never know which pill to choose.
Choosing the right weight loss pills
Read the label. The label contains the active ingredients of the pill, manufacturer, contraindications and good through date. If the label is too small or incomplete, it should be supplemented by other forms of literature that comes with the product. Drug companies are required by law to disclose what their pills contain so take advantage of this. Raise a red flag if the bottle or box does not disclose its ingredients or any important information.
Know the weight loss pills’ ingredients. Extra care is needed when it comes to supplements. Some ingredients may be very effective in suppressing appetite but are extremely dangerous like fen-phen or fenfluramine and phentermine. Studies show that these two affect the heart and nervous system adversely. Pills containing fen-phen have been pulled out of the market.
Natural is good but not always. The word natural and herbal do not always mean safe. Remember, most medicines have been cultivated from plants and other living organisms. This means that they have their own levels of potencies and contraindications. An herbal plant that treats anemia may also raise your blood pressure.
Know your brand and manufacturer. Weight loss pills are taken orally so make sure that what you are putting in your mouth is made by a reputable company. Drug companies value good will more than anything else so they will go through great lengths to protect it.
Ask your doctor. Your doctor is the best person to advise you about your health. He or she is familiar with your medical history. Never take any supplement without consulting your doctor first. You can ask him or her at great lengths to explain the active components of supplements. More importantly, he or she is in a position to tell you whether taking such pills will help or harm you.
Weight loss pills may help you achieve your ideal fitness level or figure. Take your time in choosing the right pill. Make sure that you choose the most helpful pill for you.
Fitness Franchise Business Opportunity
June 24, 2010
If recent media coverage were any indication, it would appear that virtually nobody in the United States has had any success at losing weight. Crash diets, weight loss pills and get-thin-quick gimmicks are more prevalent than ever, yet two-thirds of our population is still overweight. Even more startling is the fact that approximately one-third of the people in our country are clinically obese.
Yet more and more Americans are finding that weight loss success is not only within their grasp, but also actually easier to achieve than they thought possible.
Due to the rapid growth of women-only circuit-training gyms, women in particular are finding that weight loss is an achievable goal. Workouts just for women have become a common sight from sea to shining sea, with the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association reporting that as of July 2005 there were 26,046 health clubs in the United States (a 10.8 percent increase from just six months previous). Women-only circuit training clubs account for more than one out of every three fitness centers in the nation.
Sales at fitness clubs have also been on the rise. In January 2003, the latest figures available, the industry collectively took in $14.1 billion in revenue, a jump from $13.1 billion a year earlier.
Why has the women-only circuit-training exercise model worked so well? The short answer is that it works. Circuit training is a proven exercise system that, for many women, has proven to be more effective than dieting or nutrition programs alone.
The routine at these ladies express gyms is quick and simple, allowing each woman to progress at her own pace. The ladies exercise in a circle, each at a station. They spend 30 or 45 seconds at each station, either working a hydraulic resistance machine or doing aerobics. The entire routine takes 30 minutes.
Pick Up The Pace is one such gym for women that has carefully tracked the success of its members for years. Deanna S., a member of Pick Up The Pace in Libby, MT, lost 14.75 inches in just one month. Kim M. reduced her body-fat by 4.2 percent in just one month at Pick Up The Pace, while at the same time losing 10.75 pounds of fat.
With results like these, it’s easy to see why this fitness center concept has skyrocketed in popularity with today’s average woman. For perhaps the first time in their lives, women are finding that it’s possible to slim down and tone up in only 30 minutes each day.
What many women see as just a great way to achieve some quick weight loss, others see as a business opportunity. Despite the incredible growth of these hydraulic gyms, there seems to be no shortage of customers. As reported by CNN on 1-14-05 “Americans were expected to spend more than $40 billion in 2004 on weight control pills, gym memberships, diet plans and related foods, estimates Marketdata Enterprises, which studies the weight loss industry.” Furthermore, statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that 80 percent of overweight individuals and almost 87 percent of obese individuals are trying to lose or maintain their weight.
As reported by mygoals.com, 80 percent of Americans made a New Year’s resolution in 2005. A whopping 26 percent of those resolutions were to improve overall health and fitness, making this the top category for self-improvement. This year was no anomaly, either, according to Amy O’Connor, deputy editor of Prevention magazine: “Fifty-nine million people every year resolve to lose weight.”
With so many potential customers, many women seek to start their own circuit-training business only to find themselves discouraged by the typical franchise opportunity. They’re finding that a hydraulic gym franchise such as Curves for Women can be expensive, restrictive, and sometimes difficult to purchase.
According to the International Franchise Association, one of the women-only workout franchises recently announced that they are raising their franchise fee from $9,995 to $12,500. Another franchise package costs anywhere from $85,000 to $225,000, including a $36,000 franchise fee and startup cost. Monthly franchise royalty payments, which can range from $395 to $590 per month, place an additional burden on the franchisee. Assuming that the franchise agreement permits the buyer to use the franchise name for 10 years, the gym owner will be paying approximately $60,000 in royalty payments over the franchise term. These figures can scare off many would-be health club owners.
Many women who do opt to open a circuit-training franchise find that the franchise agreement does not grant them the liberty to add amenities as they wish. Many franchise operations restrict their fitness centers by not allowing them to add tanning, nutrition counseling, supplements, vitamins, massage therapy, body wraps or other extras for which ladies are clamoring.
Relying on good old American made ingenuity, many women entrepreneurs are choosing to either open a completely independent workout center or opt for a license package. While going independent carries the inherent risk of having to reinvent the wheel, it still may be the best option for some women. The other option is to capture most of the benefits of a franchise while at the same time avoiding the financial burdens of that system. This is done with a license package, such as the one offered by Pick Up The Pace 30-Minute Workout For Women.
For many women, getting fit, slender and in shape themselves has not only been good for their health but has also prompted them to enter the fitness market as a gym owner. With obesity rates still climbing, this is a trend that may continue for years to come.
Diet Pills: Deliverance From Obesity
June 22, 2010
Obesity : every persons nightmare
To get a lean and fit physique is everyone’s prayer
The nemesis of obesity has been there for quite a while
It has robbed many of their smile
Bulky figure does not appeal
Nor does a big waist line
Under the clutches of obesity nothing seems to be fine
Obesity makes one lose their cosmetic appeal
And that’s not all the loss
Obesity is responsible for many more
It makes people lose their health for sure
Cancer, heart problems and a surfeit of diseases and disorders
Come knocking at the door
With many more in store
Obese people have to struggle to survive
They have to constantly strive
To look good and great
At the same time, their depression makes them fill their plate
The solution is simple: diet and exercise
That is what people advice
But it is not as easy as it seems
To achieve your dreams
Many a times people lose hope and faith
